History: Not surprisingly, New York was where it all started. Mark Ava (Canadian) became a journalist in New York, working under an editor named Kathleen Descante (English with Asian ancestry). The newspaper was successful, and Mark and Kathleen grew closer as they worked together. In time they became a couple, then got married. A year after their marriage, Kyain came along. However, shortly after Kyain’s birth, the couple’s eternal love ended abruptly. They were still friends, yes, but after a year, they found that they simply could not live together.


Kyain lived with her father, but often visited her mother. She used to remark that she feels as if “Mom and Dad are together, just in different houses” because of the frequent visits. Of course, she saw her mother only when she wasn’t traveling with Mark all over the world, aiding him (or hindering him) in his job as a journalist.


Kyain’s wisp came to her when she was 6 years old. The wisp was named Fox, and spoke to her directly. The first thing Fox said to Kyain was: Do you like cupcakes? Kyain immediately replied: Yeah! The two became great friends afterwards. Both had an immensly sweet tooth. However, Kyain only found out what the wisp could do when she was 8.


Her father had taken her to a warzone. It was done reluctantly, but it was done. There was no one that he could trust Kyain with, and Kathleen had also been abroad because of her mother’s funeral in England. Warzones generally do not have a good affect on children, but it was worse for Kyain. She could feel the pain of the soldiers choking her. Whispers in her head turned to screams, begging her to take away the pain. The worst thing was, she wanted to. And by wanting to, she took the burden upon herself unknowingly. She started sobbing, her face pale and her trembling lips blue. Straightaway, Mark drove her back to their hotel room. Still crying, Kyain tried the best she could to describe what she had felt. A few days later, they came back to New York.


When they had arrived in New York, they found a letter inviting Kyain to the Academy. As much as he loved Kyain, Mark knew that this would be the best way for his little daughter. So Kyain came to the Academy at age 8, becoming the youngest student to enroll. She has become everyone’s little sister since.


Physical Appearance: Kyain is a small girl, even for her age. Pale, innocent features.She looks delicate, with large doe eyes that are obviously diagnosed with heterochromia iridum. She has one grey eye and one blue. Kyain seems to have an air of sadness and exhaustion around her sometimes, even though she tries to be cheery. Probably because of what she has to go through. Full, red lips. She is a brunette with wavy/curly hair. The only piecings she has are for earrings. She dresses how she can, but she has a sense of fashion and style that’s not really common at such a young age. Not too picky about what she wears, in general.
She also has a thin silver necklace that she frequently rubs when she is thinking, or when under stress. It has a tiny star-shaped pendant of real diamond, the only present left that her father gave her before before death. Her portrayer is Lauren Hannah Lunde.



Personality: Kyain, because of the pain she has relieved of others, has undergone many emotions that most 9 year olds have not. She is more serious than average 9 year olds. She tries to hide it, to grin bigger and laugh louder, but it’s hard for a 9 year old to do that perfectly. She can do it to some amount, though, and do have moments where she really enjoys herself. Also, she isn't afraid to use her power to manipulate others, if needed. Determined, and a quick learner/adapter. She also would take a secret to the grave, if one was entrusted to her. To most people, she would seem like a sweet little girl that you just have to love.
However, people also feel as if she is a little distant, a bit reserved. Because she has experienced so much (albeit secondhandedly), she does not trust people easily. This makes it hard for her to make real friends, but once you gain her trust, she will do next to anything for you. She is observant, learning from her father.


Wisp: Fox (hi, Ax) isn't really what you would expect from a pain-knowing creature. He loves having fun, and is what cheers Kyain up most of the time. As implied in their first conversation, he loves sweets also. Fox is Kyain's best friend and the only person who really knows what it feels like to take on another person's burden. They have a mutual understanding of each other, and they communicate through direct thoughts or images. They can also sense each other's emotions. 

Wisp Class: Sage Class


Powers: Kyain has the power to sense the pain and weakness in others. She can relieve them of their pain, but she has to take them out on herself. She cannot take away the injuries, only the feeling of pain. The power to sense the pain cannot be controlled; but the power to take it away can. Physical pain is easier to relieve, and to burden. However, she can relieve mental pain for people she especially cares about- this is much harder for her because she has to live through what that person is experiencing for them. Because she can sense specifically what type of pain they are going through, she can be either be a really nice person or a really good manipulator.


Weakness: Kyain feels lonely most of the time, even if a lot of people love her. This is only natural, being the youngest in a group. She is also too loyal, for when she becomes attached to someone, she would do anything for him or her, even push herself off the limit of the amount of pain she can take for them.


Talents: Singing, fashion, lying (making up stories)

Other: Kyain loves, loves, loves, loves chocolate. And cupcakes. Generally, any kind of sweets will appeal to her greatly. Halloween is one of her favorite holidays. She also likes to read and write, and her reading skills are above par.
